Initially settled prior to 1715, the Town of Windham County, Connecticut was first a part of the Town of Windsor. Windham County is located twenty miles northeast of Hartford and is comprised of forty-one square miles rich with history like that found in the Windham County Green Historic District which in 1997 was added to National Register of Historic Places. In this delightful village, you’ll find many gorgeous old buildings, some of which have been restored and renovated to serve new purposes while retaining the area’s vintage charm. Additional points of historical interest include the Ratcliffe Hicks Memorial School which was constructed in 1908 and today is the Hicks Municipal Building. Similarly, the Windham County Arts Center is housed in the original 1879 Town Hall, which is located directly across from the Municipal Building. What was the Windham County County Bank in 1830 is now home to the Windham County Board of Education, and The Courthouse recently became the home of the French Canadian Genealogy Library and a museum of the Windham County Historical Society.
